Jeetu Sahu, father of Sandep Sahu, one of the trapped workers, is a worried man. Sandeep, who could not secure a steady job in Jharkhand joined Jaypee Associates, which is executing the tunnel work, one and half years ago.</p>.<p>He is the eldest of four children. I was shattered on hearing the news. He left home to come here for work on September 20 and we have not seen him since then. He was studying and doing petty jobs in our village. Since there was no proper work available in the village, he came to work here. This was his first steady job. He wanted to learn machine work and settle down,” said Jeethu Sahu of Gumla in Jharkhand.</p>.<p>Another worker, Anuj Sahu, was excited to go home and had booked tickets for March 9. He joined Jaypee Associates in June 2023. Now, he is trapped in the collapsed tunnel.</p>.<p>Around 100 workers at the SLBC tunnel site are from the same district in Jharkhand. Lack of steady work forced them to come to Telangana to earn a living.</p>.<p>“What else can we do as there are no well-paying jobs back home? Here we can at least save money on accommodation and food and send some money back home,” Phool Chad Sahu told <em>DH</em>.<br>Sri Niwas, a site engineer from Uttar Pradesh, had visited home a year ago.</p>.<p>“He has three children. His eldest daughter is studying intermediate. I don't know what future lies ahead for them. We are all praying for his safe return,” Lakshman, a relative of Sri Niwas said.</p>
