<p class="bodytext">Acclaimed Israeli architect Ada Karmi-Melamede was the focus of a film screening on Tuesday at the InCITE Gallery in Banashankari. ‘Ada — My Mother the Architect’ is directed by her daughter, filmmaker, and former architect, Yael. </p>.<p class="bodytext">Orli Weitzman, consul general of Israel to south India, opened the evening by saying: “It is a story that speaks to the universal challenges of combining a successful career with family life.” </p>.<p class="bodytext">Ada became the second woman to win the Israel Prize in architecture in 2007. Her notable projects include Jerusalem’s Supreme Court building, the Open University of Israel, and Ben Gurion Airport. </p>.<p class="bodytext">The audience at the 82-minute screening was impressed by Ada’s skill with both pencil and words. Nithya Srinivasan, founder-partner, InFORM Architects, which runs the gallery, was struck by Ada’s remark: “Light is the cheapest building material”. A storyteller found Ada’s view that “there should be conflict in architecture” compelling.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Yashswiny N P, an intern at an architectural firm, found Ada’s focus on integrating natural light and existing greenery into design insightful. Some believed only a woman filmmaker could portray a successful woman with such nuance.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The screening was held in collaboration with the Consulate General of Israel to South India.</p>
