<p>Thiruvananthapuram: The police were yet to arrive at a conclusion on the provocation behind a youth killing five members of his family in Thiruvananthapuram.</p><p>While the accused Afan, 23, told the police that stress over financial liabilities caused by his father's business in Saudi Arabia was the provocation, the police were learnt to be looking into other angles like the financial dealings of the youth and differences in the family over his relationship with Farsana, who was also killed. There are suspicions that he was into substance abuse over the last few months. Some relatives stated that he used to seek financial assistance from his grandmother. One of her gold chains was suspected to be missing. He killed his paternal grandmother Selma Beevi at her house which is around 20 kilometres away and his father's brother Lathif and his wife Shahida at their house which is around 10 kilometres away. All the killings took place between 10 am and 6 pm. He tried to kill his mother Shemmi also who is battling for life with serious head injuries.</p><p>All the bodies were handed over to relatives for funeral after postmortem examination. Afan's father Rahim is unable to travel from Saudi owing to technical reasons. Efforts are being made by some welfare organisations to enable his return.</p>
