Railway Board approves extension of Mangaluru-Kabaka passenger train to Subrahmanya

Mangaluru: With the relentless efforts of Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, the Railway Board has approved the extension of the Mangaluru-Kabaka Passenger train service to Subrahmanya— a long-standing demand spanning decades.

The extension will now provide greater convenience to daily commuters travelling between Mangaluru, Puttur, and Subrahmanya as well as devotees visiting the Kukke Subrahmanya temple, said Capt Chowta.

As per the revised schedule, the Mangaluru Central-Kabaka Puttur-Subrahmanya Road Passenger Train (56625) will depart from Mangaluru Central at 4 am, reaching Kabaka-Puttur at 5:18 am, where it will halt for two minutes before arriving at Subrahmanya Road at 6:30 am.

For the return journey, the train (56626) will leave Subrahmanya Road at 7 am, reach Kabaka-Puttur at 7:48 am (with a two-minute halt), and arrive at Mangaluru Central at 9:30 am.

In the evening, the Mangaluru Central-Subrahmanya Road Passenger Train (56627) will depart Mangaluru Central at 5:45 pm, reach Puttur at 7:03 pm, and after a two-minute halt, reach Subrahmanya Road at 8:10 pm.

Similarly, the Subrahmanya Road-Mangaluru Passenger Train (56628) will leave Subrahmanya Road at 8:40 pm, reach Kabaka-Puttur at 9:28 pm (with a two-minute halt), and reach Mangaluru Central at 11:10 pm.

The Railway Board has directed the South Western Railway and Southern Railway to review logistical requirements and begin the extended service as soon as possible.

Capt Brijesh Chowta expressed his gratitude to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of State for Railways V Somanna, and the Railway Board on behalf of the people of Dakshina Kannada for the extension of the service.

He highlighted that extending the Mangaluru-Puttur Passenger train service to Subrahmanya Road Station had been a demand for nearly two decades. "During my first parliamentary session, I raised the issue in the Lok Sabha and brought it to the attention of the Railway Minister. Recently, I personally met with the Chairman of the Railway Board and urged for the implementation of this extension. Now, the revised railway schedule has been announced, marking a collective victory for the people of our district," he stated.

The train service will benefit devotees visiting Kukke Subrahmanya Temple from different parts of the coastal region and beyond. It will also benefit students and daily commuters traveling between Sullia, Subrahmanya, Puttur, Bantwal, and Mangaluru for education and employment and help in boosting the local economy as improved rail connectivity will enhance business and tourism in the region, felt MP.
